Abstract / Hauptanspruch
The sensor has a light source (1) e.g. LED, to emit a light beam toward a movable linear polarizing disk (3). Each of a set of fixed polarizers (P1-PN) linearly polarizes the beam along a predefined direction. A multi-channel reception module (5) generate two signals proportional to light intensity of the beam from the polarizers. Discrimination units (7) are arranged on a path of the beam such that the reception module generates a different locating signal at each half-turn of a rotating axle (8). The source and the module are arranged on a same side with respect to the disk. The discrimination units are formed by a chromium deposit on a part of the disk. An independent claim is also included for a method for obtaining an angular position of a rotating axle by using an optical sensor.
